Reopening Plan: Thank You For Your Patience

With restrictions being lifted and an increasing number of businesses reopening, we wanted to keep you, our valued client, updated on Vancouver South Animal Hospital’s reopening plan. Our top priority remains safeguarding the health and safety of our clients and staff, all the while continuing to provide outstanding patient care.

As a healthcare provider, factors such as waiting and exam room size, air flow and the ability to maintain safe distancing
during your pet’s examination are all factors that play into our reopening plan.

Also, given the newness of the COVID-19 vaccine, variants of concern and the potential for a fourth wave, our clients and
staff are expressing vastly different comfort levels with respect to physical distancing.

While a reopening plan is in the works, we continue to take a cautious approach.

When we do reopen, here are some of the things you can expect:

  • The number of concurrent client visits will be restricted to respect physical distancing.
  • One client will be allowed per patient.
  • The wearing of surgical masks will be mandatory. Masks will be provided by the clinic.
  • COVID-19 screening will be in place for all visitors.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be readily available throughout the clinic.
  • Curbside service food and medication pickup will remain available. 
  • Curbside drop off will remain in place and clients will continue to have the option to virtually participate in appointments via a clinic-supplied tablet.

COVID-19 Protocols

Vancouver South Animal Hospital will continue to provide services to the best of our abilities during these tough times.

While local authorities may order non-essential businesses to close, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association considers veterinary services to be essential and we remain available for essential care.

We are adapting plans and protocols reflecting recommendations from public health and veterinary authorities to ensure our hospital teams can continue to provide care for your pet.

Our operating hours are presently unchanged, however we may be required to alter our hours on short notice as the situation progresses. We will communicate changes to our hours by email and social media. During operating hours, our veterinarian and staffing team may be limited and our hospital may need to triage patients based on medical needs. At this time, we will also be rescheduling all non-urgent, elective procedures and examinations (e.g. boarding, grooming, elective surgeries, dental procedures).

To minimize exposure, we are operating a closed-door hospital. We ask you to stay outside or in your vehicle and please call us at 604-321-6600 when you arrive and adhere to the following steps:

      • We will take a medical history on the call, and a staff member will bring your pet into the clinic for an exam with a veterinarian.
      • After the exam, we will call you with the recommended treatment plan, and then bring your pet back to your vehicle.
      • If you are picking up food or medication, please wait outside and we will bring it to you.
      • Drop-off appointments will also be provided as alternatives to in-person visits.
      • Please be aware that there is a delay in deliveries from our supplier, there is no supply shortage but our deliveries may take a few extra days to arrive.
      • Alternatively, food and medications can be purchased from our online store and delivered directly to your home. We are temporarily suspending drop-in food pick-ups at our hospital, and you need to call us first for arrangement.

Please do not come to the hospital if:

      • You have traveled outside of Canada within the past 2 weeks or have close contact with anyone who has.
      • You are feeling any symptoms such as a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing.
      • If you have been or are in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
      • Give us a call at 604-321-6600 and we will discuss alternative arrangements to ensure that your pet receives the needed care.

We appreciate your patience during this time, as there may be higher call volumes and longer wait times as we screen appointment bookings. As the COVID-19 situation rapidly evolves, we will continue to keep you up to date so that you can make the best decisions for your pet’s health care.
